Lakers Cannot Solve Trolls As Losing Skid Hits Five
PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Roosevelt held the lead just once in the entire match as Trinity Christian swept past the Lakers in straight sets Tuesday night in Palos Heights.
The setback dropped the Lakers (5-9) to 1-4 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action and was Roosevelt's fifth straight loss. The 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 loss was a reflection of the Lakers' cold night on offense as they finished with just 21 kills compared to 20 errors for a .012 hitting percentage.
Roosevelt earned an early point on a service error from Trinity Christian, but the 1-1 tie in the first set was one of just three points in the match when the Lakers did not trail on the serve. They fell behind 7-2 in the opening set and never got closer than three points again. Roosevelt dropped 12 of the first 13 points in the second set before making a run to close the deficit to 14-8. The Lakers then won the first point of the third set for their only lead before losing the next 10 points in the match.
Joana Rafols was a standout for the Lakers with eight kills and no errors in the match and Emily DeBlecourt added six kills for Roosevelt. Isa Grana had three blocks – one solo and two assisted – to tie for the team lead alongside Yuliia Shchepkina, who was part of three assisted blocks. Catarina Calabrese led the way with eight digs for the Lakers and Zoe Hutchinson registered 11 assists.
The Lakers will return to action Thursday in Chicago against crosstown rival Saint Xavier at 7 p.m. in a road CCAC contest.
