Lakers Outlast Jaguars For First CCAC Win

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. — Roosevelt survived yet another marathon five-set match to earn its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Thursday night over Governors State in University Park.

After dropping the first set 26-24, the Lakers (5-4, 1-2 CCAC) struck back with a 25-21 win in the second set then seized momentum with a chaotic 37-35 win in set No. 3. The Jaguars again edged the Lakers in the fourth set, 27-25, before Roosevelt clinched the match with a 15-10 win in the final set. During that decisive fifth set, the Lakers fell behind 9-8 before taking a timeout and rattling off four straight points to claim control.

The Lakers will play three games this weekend at the AMF Memorial Tournament hosted by Taylor University in Indiana. Roosevelt will face Cumberlands (Tenn.) on Friday at 10 a.m. before facing IU-Kokomo and the hosts, Taylor, on Saturday with both those foes receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll.
