Lakers Blanked By Trojans In CCAC Volleyball Action

DEERFIELD, Ill. – Early struggles in each set doomed the Roosevelt Lakers against Trinity International in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball match Tuesday night in Deerfield, Ill.

Roosevelt (5-20, 5-11 CCAC) began the opening set by winning four of the first six points, but it quickly went downhill for them on the road. The Trojans scored the next 10 points and 15 of the next 16 to take full control of the set. Roosevelt was able to settle down, but could not find a rally of its own to fall 25-15.

The Lakers fell behind 7-2 early in the second set and never built any momentum, falling 25-17 in the middle set. The third set was far more even between the two teams early and Roosevelt trailed just 11-10. Yet the Trojans capitalized to score five of the next six points and a late rally was stifled for a 25-18 defeat in the final set.

Senior Jessa Henry had 20 assists and 13 digs to lead the Lakers in both categories. Viktoria Marysheva smacked down a team-best 14 kills to account for more than half of the team's 25 kills in the match. Emily DeBlecourt was the only other Lakers player to score more than three points, finishing with five points on her five kills.

The Lakers close out their season Thursday night at 7 p.m. on Senior Day against Trinity Christian at the Goodman Center.
