Career Day for Viktoria Marysheva But Lakers Women’s Volleyball Falls to TIU

CHICAGO – After a quick one match road trip, the Roosevelt University women's volleyball team was back at the Goodman Center on Tuesday, October 4 to continue its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule against the Trojans from Trinity International.

The Lakers started the match hot with a well-placed kill from Brooke Williams. Followed up by a Krista Norton block, Viktoria Marysheva supplied five kills to stretch the RU lead to 10-4, forcing an early timeout from the Trojans. Roosevelt continued to sustain their lead thanks to kills from Logan Cofield and Jessa Henry. Marysheva added two more kills and another block with Norton to increase the Lakers advantage to 19-12 and causing TIU to use another timeout. The Lakers closed out the opening set just as they started it, with a Brooke Williams kill, to take the first 25-17.

After falling behind early in the second, Catarina Calabrese entered the match to serve for the Lakers. Following on Calabrese's well-placed serves, the Lakers stormed ahead 5-2. After exchanging a series of back and forth points, the Trojans would battle back to tie the set at 13 apiece. Marysheva continued to be red hot, adding another five kills to her total. With the Lakers trailing 21-23, Cofield got RU back within a point with a kill, but the Trojans held on to even the match at one set each.

Roosevelt got the scoring started off in the third set a Henry kill and yet another kill from Marysheva, but fell behind early, 2-5. A Jessa Henry service ace and a block from Marysheva tied the frame at six all. The Lakers slipped behind by as many as five points at 11-16, but battled back to within two on a Marysheva ace, leaving the score 15-17 after a TIU timeout. Another Marysheva kill gave her 15 on the day, tying her season high in less than three sets and tying the set at 20 each. On the verge of defeat, Marysheva nailed another kill to tie the set at 24, but TIU pulled away to win 26-24.

Undeterred, Jessa Henry flipped the momentum back in the Lakers favor with two early kills. Marysheva floated a well-placed ball for kill number 18, tying her career best in just over three sets.
