
Women's Volleyball Loses to CCAC Conference Leading St. Xavier in Straight Sets
CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team travelled to the south side of Chicago to take on CCAC Conference leading St. Xavier University, falling to the Cougars in straight sets on Saturday, October 1 at the Shannon Center. The Lakers are now 2-5 in conference play and 3-14 overall on the year.
The Lakers began the match by taking a 4-1 lead in the first set, but the Cougars scored the next six points to take the lead and built a 17-9 advantage. RU closed the gap to 20-16 and were unable to get any closer with the home team scoring five straight points to win 25-16.
St. Xavier dominated the second set from the get go, jumping out to a 15-3 lead and winning 25-14 to take a 2-0 match lead.
The third set saw the Cougars take a 4-1 lead to start, but the Lakers came back to take a 7-6 advantage behind four kills by Viktoria Marysheva. However, St. Xavier went on another run, this time scoring five consecutive points to take the lead for good and finishing off the set 25-17 to sweep the conference match.
