Women’s Volleyball Falls Twice on Day Two at SHU Tournament

ADRIAN, MICH. – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball finished play at the SHU Tournament on the campus of Siena Heights University on Saturday, September 3. The first match of the second day and final day of the tournament pit the Lakers against the host school, Siena Heights. In the final match of the invitational, Roosevelt looked to take down the St. Thomas More Saints.

 

Match 1 – Roosevelt vs. Siena Heights

In first match of the second day against Siena Heights, Zoe Hutchinson did a terrific job setting up her teammates, accumulating 16 assists. Alyssa Stilley was able to put those sets away, tallying a team-high eight kills. Logan Cofield and Nicole Darin added six kills of their own. Freshman Vaiva Blistrabas paced Roosevelt with 11 digs.

The Lakers were unable to get a consistent attack going throughout the three-set affair. Despite keeping the score close early in set one at 7-9, RU would fall 13-25. Siena Heights would maintain that momentum in the final two sets, winning each by a 25-15 margin, to claim the match 3-0.

Match 2 - Roosevelt vs. St. Thomas More

Looking to pick up a win in match two against the St. Thomas More Saints, Stilley once again topped the stat sheet in the kills column with nine total kills. Fellow middle blocker Brooke Williams added seven kills of her own. Hutchinson led the team with 13 assists and Jessa Henry delivered 10 more for the Lakers.

After dropping set one 12-25, Roosevelt got off to a quick start in the second, going up 4-2 early thanks to a kill from Stilley. The match would remain close until a Saints rally put them up for good, 14-10, and eventually winning the set 25-18. Stilley again paced the Lakers in set three, getting two kills to start the set as RU gained a 4-0 advantage. The Lakers would maintain the lead until a seven-point streak for the Saints put them ahead 17-13. Roosevelt would not recover and St. Thomas More closed out the match with a 25-21 set win.

NEXT UP

The Roosevelt women's volleyball team will begin CCAC conference play on the road when they travel to Elgin, Illinois to take on Judson University. The match against the Eagles is set to take place inside the Lindner Fitness Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
