Women's Volleyball Drops CCAC Conference Match to Lincoln in Five Sets

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team lost its second consecutive five-set, CCAC Conference match, falling to Lincoln College on Tuesday, October 26 at the Goodman Center.  The loss dropped the Lakers overall record to 3-22 and their conference record to 0-14 on the year.

The Lakers got off to a slow start and fell behind 12-6 in the opening set before falling 25-14 to trail in the match.

The second set was a battle between the two teams with the Lakers holding a 12-10 advantage, but the Lynx came back to take a 19-17 lead.  Roosevelt scored the next two points to tie things up at 19-19, and the two teams were tied four more times before Lincoln served for set point at 24-23.  However, the Lakers broke set point and then got a kill from Viktoria Marysheva and another point on a Lynx attack error to lead 25-24 and serve for their own set point.  The Lynx fought it off and the Lakers also had set point at 26-25 after a Kaila Beckwith kill, but the Lynx rallied for three straight points to win 28-26 and take a 2-0 match lead.

Roosevelt raced out to a 4-0 lead to begin the third set and held the lead the rest of the way, building a lead as large as six points and winning the stanza 25-20 to trail 2-1 in the match.  The Lakers posted a .406 attacking percentage in the set.

Lincoln got hot in the beginning of the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, but the Lakers answered with the next four points on three service aces from Marysheva and a kill by Mandy Stahulak.  Roosevelt continued the momentum, taking the lead for good at 6-5 and winning 25-20 to tie the match up at two sets apiece.

The Lakers broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth and deciding set to take a 10-6 lead and led 13-10 late in the set.  However, the Lynx scored four consecutive points to take a 14-13 lead and serve for match point.  A service error by the Lynx gave the Lakers the next point, but the visitors followed up with the next two points to win the set 16-14 and take the match in five sets.
