Women's Volleyball Loses CCAC Conference Match to Calumet St. Joseph in Four Sets
WHITING, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team lost a CCAC Conference match to Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in four sets on Monday, October 18 at the Rittenmeyer Center in Whiting, Ind. The loss keeps the Lakers winless in the CCAC at 0-11 and drops their overall record to 3-19 on the year.
The Lakers fell behind 4-1 to begin the opening set and trailed 11-5 later in the stanza. However, RU stormed back with the next five points to pull to within 11-10 and tied the set up at 14-14. The Crimson Wave then pulled ahead again to take a 22-18 lead, but the Lakers came back once again, this time scoring six straight points to lead 24-22 behind two Mandy Stahulak service aces. Unfortunately, CCSJ fought through two set points and scored four straight points to steal the set late at 26-24.
In the second set, the Lakers broke an 8-8 tie to take the lead for good, cruising to a 25-18 win to tie the match up at 1-1.
The third set belonged to the Crimson Wave, as they raced out to a big 21-9 advantage and never looked back, winning 25-13 to take a 2-1 match lead.
The Lakers started the fourth set off well, jumping out to a 6-3 lead, but CCSJ came right back to take a 7-6 lead. The two teams traded leads throughout the set and things were even at 20-20 late. The Crimson Wave scored the next three points, but the Lakers then scored three straight points of their own to tie it at 23-23. However, a kill by CCSJ and an error by RU gave the Crimson Wave the set and the match.
