Women's Volleyball Loses to St. Ambrose in CCAC Conference Match

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team lost to St. Ambrose University in straight sets on the road in CCAC Conference play on Tuesday, September 14 at Lee Lohman Arena.  The loss drops the Lakers conference record to 0-5 and their overall record to 2-11 on the year.

The Lakers had a brief lead early on in the opening set at 5-3, but the Fighting Saints scored the next three points to go ahead and pushed their lead to as large as seven points before winning the set 25-18. 

In the second set, RU once again held the lead in the beginning at 4-3 with St. Ambrose coming back to build a 10-6 advantage.  The Lakers fought back to within a point on five occasions and tied things up at 23-23 on a Mandy Stahulak service ace.  Unfortunately, St. Ambrose scored the set's final two points to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 match advantage.

The Fighting Bees jumped out to a 5-1 margin to start the third set, but the Lakers climbed to within 6-5 before falling behind 11-6.  Three straight points from RU made it an 11-9 deficit and the Lakers also trailed by two points at 15-13.  St. Ambrose continued to hold the lead and opened up a 22-17 advantage, but the Lakers rattled off three consecutive points to close to within 22-20.  However, the Fighting Bees were able to close out the set and match with three straight points to win 25-20 and take the match in three sets.
