Roosevelt Places Well In DeBacker Invitational

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Roosevelt sent a handful of athletes to the DeBacker Invitational on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and came away with some impressive results.

Only two members on the women's team made the trip with Shelsee Isassi and Monse Morales both running in the 1,500-meter race. Morales finished in 5:33.75 to finish 13th and Issasi was a few seconds back in 17th at 5:37.92

Just three men made the trip for the Lakers, and all three placed inside the top four to push Roosevelt into sixth place as a team. Kieran Cassidy finished fourth in the javelin toss with a mark of 37.51 meters. Willie Rouse made his triple jump debut with a leap of 11.22 meters, good for third place in the event. Cristian Martinez returned to the 5,000-meter race walk and kept pace with the leaders for most of the race before finishing in third with a time of 26:46.33

The Lakers are scheduled to bring a full team to ONU Outdoor Open next Saturday in Bourbonnais in their final tune-up prior to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on May 3 and 4 in Joliet.
