Lakers Start Outdoor Season With Strong Performances

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Alexia Lohman made an impact in her first track & field meet of the season as Roosevelt opened up its outdoor season at the Warrior Invitational in Wauwatosa, Wis.

Lohman, a freshman from Royce City, Texas, joined the track squad after basketball season ended and finished fourth for the Lakers women in the triple jump. Her leap of 31 feet, 5.25 inches was less than three feet behind the eventual winner and earned Roosevelt five team points. Lohman also finished 10th in the high jump, where teammate Millicent Ghapson finished sixth for three more points.

The Lakers had several athletes nearly earn points for the team, notably Angela Louis in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. The junior finished 10th in the 100 meters, barely missing out on qualifying for the final by 0.08 seconds, then finished a little more than half a second behind the point-scoring place in the 200. Monse Morales finished ninth in the 800-meter run, one spot behind the points,

Roosevelt's men's team scored 13 team points, leading off with two from Kenan Gaston in the 100 meters. The freshman qualified seventh in a time of 11.74 seconds then improved on his time from the preliminary heat to 11.70 seconds in the final. Ashton Gray added another five points to the Lakers' total in the 200 meters, blazing a fourth-place finish in a time of 23.34 seconds.

Raul Ortiz scored two points in the 5,000 meters by finishing seventh and Jadale Mitchell scored a point in the shot put with an eighth-place finish. Kieran Cassidy rounded out the scoring by finishing sixth in the javelin toss, earning him and the Lakers three more points.
