Hahn Earns Fourth NAIA Scholar-Athlete Honor, Gutierrez, Valdenaire Earn First Award
CHICAGO – The Roosevelt tennis program had three players honored as Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Monday.
Grace Hahn held down the fort for the women with her fourth consecutive honor, joining the rare club of four-time recipients of the award. The men's team had two honorees, Jorge Gutierrez and Sebastien Valdenaire, both of whom were honored for the first time for their academic success at Roosevelt.
Hahn made 18 appearances this season in match play for the Lakers, playing all over the singles lineup for Roosevelt. Neither Gutierrez nor Valdenaire played a match this spring for Roosevelt.
Per the NAIA, the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the institution. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
