Alvarez Earns Second Career All-CCAC Honor

CHICAGO – For the second consecutive season, Mackenzie Alvarez has been named a second-team all-conference performer by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the league announced Monday.

Alvarez was the first freshman in program history to earn all-conference honors last season, and followed up with an even better sophomore campaign. Although she did not record a point this season, Alvarez was called upon to be a leader on a back line that often featured two freshmen alongside her. She started all 16 games for Roosevelt this season and helped the Lakers allow just 26 goals all season while pitching three clean sheets.

The native of Poplar Grove becomes just the third Lakers player to ever earn multiple all-conference honors. It also marks the fourth consecutive season Roosevelt has placed a player on the all-conference teams after having just three all-conference nods in the first eight years of the program.

"We were much improved on the defensively this season and Mackenzie played a large role in that," Roosevelt head coach Tom Czop said. "Her pace and hard work eliminated several offensive opportunities from our opponents. In addition, her experience helped mold and lead a young unit, which included three freshmen on the backline with her at different times down the stretch. I'm happy that our conference recognized her for this for the second straight year for her hard work on the field."

Alvarez will hope to become the program's first three-time all-conference honoree as she leads the Lakers into the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference next season. Roosevelt is expected to return nine of the 11 starters from its quarterfinals loss to St. Ambrose in addition to two other key contributors and normal starters, who missed the conference tournament matchup.
