Trolls Stump Lakers In CCAC Action

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – There was no shortage of offense Saturday as Roosevelt fell 4-1 to Trinity Christian in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action in Palos Heights.

The Lakers (3-5-0, 1-3-0 CCAC) attempted 14 shots in the match, seven in each half, and put the Trolls under pressure in a back-and-forth contest. Most of those shots did reach goal as the Trinity Christian goalkeeper was credited with seven saves and an eighth save was credited to the team's defense.

However, Roosevelt didn't dent the scoreboard until the 70th minute when Kelsey Johnson scored her first goal with the Lakers off an assist from Daisy Hernandez-Loya. Johnson and Hernandez-Loya both had strong efforts in the latter stages of the match as well, but were turned aside. Hernandez-Loya led Roosevelt with five shots on goal on six attempts while Johnson added a pair of shots as well. Paola Macias and Brenna Rohloff added the other shots on goal for the Lakers.

Trinity Christian took a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the first half and Roosevelt was able to force three saves from the Trolls in the opening half. The Trolls added a third goal early in the second half, spurring a strong response from the Lakers. Hernandez-Loya got the end of a corner kick with her head and forced Trinity Christian to clear the ball away from the goal and less than a minute later she had another shot attempt.

Roxana Herrera was credited with eight saves of her own in goal for the Lakers, making four stops in each half.

Roosevelt will return to action Tuesday night in Indiana with a matchup against Indiana South Bend at 5 p.m.
