Roosevelt Can't Crack Judson In CCAC Opener

ELGIN, Ill. – A strong effort in the field was not enough for Roosevelt on Saturday as it fell 2-0 to Judson in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both squads in Elgin.

The Lakers (2-3-0, 0-1-0 CCAC) held an edge in most of the statistical categories but failed to crack the Eagles defense. They trailed 1-0 at halftime despite holding a 7-4 edge in shot attempts and forcing five saves out of the Judson keeper. Roosevelt kept up the pressure in the second half with a 9-4 advantage in shot attempts, but the Eagles keeper made three stops and the defense was credited with a pair of saves for clearing out shots off the line.

Judson took the lead in the 41st minute after a long stretch of Roosevelt possession, but Alex Creel nearly equalized six minutes into the second half with a shot that rang off the crossbar. With just under 15 minutes left, the Eagles took their 2-0 lead, and the Lakers extended their pressure in search of a goal to get them back into the game.

Three minutes after Judson's second goal, Brenna Rohloff had her shot cleared off the line by the Eagles defense and shortly thereafter, Ashley Luvianos had her shot stopped by the keeper. Rohloff again had a shot stopped near the goal by the Judson defense in the 83rd minute in what would turn out to be the team's last shot on goal. Creel delivered Roosevelt's seventh corner kick of the match in the 87th minute to finish off the Lakers' scoring opportunities.

Rohloff led the way with four shots on goal for Roosevelt while Luvianos and Paola Macias both put two shots on frame for the Lakers. Roxana Herrera made three saves in goal for Roosevelt as she was mostly a non-factor in the final 15 minutes of the match while the Lakers pressed the pace.

The Lakers return home to Morris Field next Saturday for a CCAC match against Holy Cross at noon.
