Alvarez, Smith Earn All-CCAC Second-Team Honors

CHICAGO – Roosevelt University senior forward Meaghan Smith and freshman defender Mackenzie Alvarez were both named second-team all-conference honorees by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches on Monday, the league announced.

Smith, a Troy, Ill. native, led the Lakers with seven goals and 19 total points this season. She ranked in the top-20 in the league in goals and points while finishing seventh in shots with 68 attempts this season. This is Smith's second all-conference honors in her two years with the Lakers after transferring in from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Smith is the second Lakers player in program history to earn multiple all-conference honors for the Green and White.

"Meaghan had another strong season offensively after leading our team in scoring for the second straight season," head coach Tom Czop said. "Every conference team paid special attention to her defensively game in and game out, and I am happy that she capped off an outstanding collegiate career by earning CCAC All-Conference honors during her senior season."

Alvarez started 15 of Roosevelt's 16 games this season in her first year, becoming a stalwart of the defense. She scored twice this season and helped the Lakers keep five clean sheets this season from the back line. The Poplar Grove, Ill. native becomes the first Roosevelt freshman to earn all-conference honors in the CCAC.

"Mackenzie was asked to do a lot as a freshman and stepped up and excelled in every way possible this year," Czop said. "It is not very common for a freshman to come in and start as a center back at the collegiate level, let alone be recognized as one of the top players at that position in the conference.  We know that the sky is the limit on what she can accomplish the next three years and we expect more great things during her time at RU."

Roosevelt finished this season with a 5-7-4 overall record, including a 5-5-3 mark in conference play. The Lakers are expecting to return six players from this year's squad who started at least 10 games for the 2023-24 season.
