Lakers Tie Governors State 1-1 in CCAC Conference Women's Soccer Action

CROWN POINT, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team tied Governors State University by the score of 1-1 in CCAC Conference action on Tuesday, October 4 at the Crown Point Sportsplex.  The Lakers now own a 3-2-1 conference record and are 3-4-2 overall this season.

The Lakers had a sluggish start to the game and the Jaguars had the better of the play in the first half, outshooting RU 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but the game remained scoreless at the break.

Roosevelt took control of possession in the second half and pressured the Governors State goal, firing off 17 shots compared to four for the home team.  However, the Jaguars took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute when Grace McLaughlin scored off a rebound from a free kick that caromed off the cross bar.

The Lakers continued to press for the equalizer and had several near misses in the next 14 minutes before Mayte Gongora tied the game with a 40-yard blast into the top corner.  The goal was the first of Gongora's collegiate career, but RU could not find the back of the net again despite controlling play, tying the conference game 1-1 with the Jaguars.
