Women's Soccer Defeats Trinity International for Second Straight CCAC Conference Victory

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team posted its second consecutive CCAC Conference victory with a 2-1 win over Trinity International University on Saturday, October 1 at Schartner Field.  The win raised the Lakers' conference record to 3-2 and their overall record to 3-4-1 on the year.

The Lakers were on the attack from the opening whistle and had two point blank shots from Meaghan Smith and Nyah Bejarano saved by the Trojans' goalkeeper in the first five minutes to keep the game scoreless.  Despite holding an 8-2 shot advantage in the first half, RU was unable to score in the first 45 minutes and goalkeeper Roxy Herrera kept Trinity International off the board as well with a key breakaway save in the half.

Just under seven minutes in the second half, Nyah Bejarano sent a driven free kick into the Trojans' penalty area and Paola Macias headed home her first goal of the season for a 1-0 RU lead.  A minute and a half later, Nerlyn Munoz got on the end of a Bejarano corner kick and scored her first collegiate goal with a header for a 2-0 Lakers' lead.

The Trojans got a goal back in the 64th minute when Morgan Busick lofted a 25-yard shot from the right side that hit the far post and found the back of the net to make a 2-1 game.  The Lakers had a number of opportunities to score an insurance goal with Meaghan Smith having the best chance late, but her shot hit the post and RU had to settle for the 2-1 final score.
