Women's Soccer Dominates Calumet St. Joseph for First CCAC Conference Victory of the Season

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team used an offensive explosion to defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) by the score of 8-0 on Saturday, September 17 to earn both its first CCAC Conference and season victory of the season.  The Lakers are now 1-1 in conference play and 1-3-1 overall this season.

Roosevelt needed just over 18 minutes in the first half to put the game away with five goals, including two from Griselda Gurrola in the 11th and 16th minutes, which were the first two goals of her collegiate career. 

Nyah Bejarano got things going in the ninth minute with her first goal of the year, while Lola Arreola also scored her first tally of the year in the 16th minute and Mackenzie Alvarez converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute to record her first career goal.

Arreola notched her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute, heading in a Bejarano corner kick, and Giovana Garduno slotted home a breakaway for her first collegiate tally off an assist from Gurrola.  Destiny Ashcraft also scored on a breakaway in the 77th minute from a Nerlyn Munoz pass to close out the game's scoring.

The Lakers travel to Davenport, Iowa on Tuesday, September 20 to square off against St. Ambrose University in CCAC Conference action.  Kick-off is scheduled for 5pm at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex and fans can watch the game live here.
