Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Night With 6-0 CCAC Conference Victory Over Indiana Northwest
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team celebrated "Senior Night" with a 6-0 CCAC Conference victory over Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday, October 26 at Morris Field. The win extended the Lakers winning streak to four games, raising their conference record to 7-4-1 and their overall record to 10-6-1 on the year.
The Lakers dominated the game throughout, allowing the RedHawks just one shot in the game while posting 26 of their own, including 15 shots on goal. Marubeni Nieto started the scoring for RU in the 13th minute, heading in an Anahi Cerda corner kick for her first goal of the year. The assist for Cerda set a Lakers program record for assists in a season with eight.
In the 33rd minute, Ashley Capetillo banged in a rebound from a Mayeri Diaz shot to register her fifth goal of the season. Just under seven minutes later, Capetillo started a passing sequence with Yazmin Rojas to send Meaghan Smith through and the junior forward fired in her eighth goal of the year with both Rojas and Capetillo earning assists.
Two RU seniors teamed up in the 56th minute to push the Lakers lead to 4-0 when Gabi Christidis headed in a Marbella Rodriguez corner kick. The goal was Christidis' seventh of the year. Thirty seconds later, Meaghan Smith scored her second goal of the game and team-leading ninth goal of the year off an assist from Julia Szylke. The Lakers closed out the scoring in the 78th minute when a Mayeri Diaz shot ricocheted off Yazmin Rojas into the goal, giving the goal to Rojas for her first in her career and the assist to Diaz for her second of the match.
