Women's Soccer Knocks Off Trinity Christian 2-0 to Earn Second Straight CCAC Conference Tournament Appearance

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team earned an impressive CCAC Conference victory to clinch a spot the CCAC Conference Tournament for the second straight season, defeating Trinity Christian College by the score of 2-0 on Saturday, October 23 at Schaaf Athletic Complex.  The win raised the Lakers conference record to 6-4-1 and their overall record to 9-6-1 on the year.

The Lakers started the game off aggressively on the attack, but Trinity Christian caught Roosevelt on the counter for two one-on-ones with goalkeeper Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez, who came up big with saves on both occasions to keep the game scoreless.

RU broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Anahi Cerda picked up a loose ball and hammered a 30-yard shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.  Eight minutes later Marbella Rodriguez fired in a loose ball in the Trolls penalty box to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead, which they would take into the half-time break.

The second half was an even contest with both teams attempting four shots, but neither could find the back of the net with the Lakers coming the closest to scoring when a Marbella Rodriguez shot hit the inside of the post and bounced out.  The RU defense played a strong game, holding the Trinity Christian offense that has scored 44 goals this season scoreless and to only eight shots total in the game.
