Women's Soccer Loses to St. Francis 3-2 Despite Holding a 24-6 Shot Advantage

JOLIET, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team lost to the University of St. Francis by the score of 3-2 in a CCAC Conference match on Saturday, September 25 at Joliet Memorial Stadium.  The loss evened the Lakers conference record at 2-2 and dropped their overall record to 5-4 overall.

The Lakers played against a strong wind in the first half, but were still able to hold an 8-3 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes.  However, it was the Fighting Saints who found the back of the net on one of their three shots in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half-time break.

Roosevelt wasted little time in equalizing the match to start the second half as Meaghan Smith fired in a shot from 20 yards out for her third goal of the season just a minute and a half in.  Unfortunately, St. Francis only needed nine seconds to regain the lead when Litzy Corona received the ball off the kick-off and blasted in a left-footed shot.

The Lakers continued to pressure the Fighting Saints, holding a 16-3 shot advantage in the second half, and once again tied the game in the 77th minute when Lola Arreola slotted in a loose ball for her second goal of the season.  Late in the game, Meaghan Smith fired a free kick on goal and the ball was cleared out by the Fighting Saints to Corona, who raced down the field and once again found the back of the net with just over five minutes left to seal the win for USF.
