Women's Soccer Dominates in 4-0 Shutout Victory Over Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team defeated Cleary University on the road by the score of 4-0 on Saturday, September 4 to earn its second win in a row and even its overall record at 2-2 on the year.

The Lakers dominated the match from the opening whistle and took a 1-0 lead when Meaghan Smith flicked in an Anahi Cerda corner kick for her first goal of the season in the 15th minute.  Mayeri Diaz upped the RU lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute with a shot to the back corner for her first goal of the year.

Despite outshooting the Cougars 29-1 in the contest, the Lakers could not find the back of the net again until late in the game, scoring two goals 35 seconds apart in the 88th minute.  The first of the two goals was credited as an own goal after a Meaghan Smith shot was deflected into the near corner, and Tatiana Rodriguez capped off the scoring with her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate game off an assist from her sister Marbella Rodriguez.

The RU backline had a strong game, limiting Cleary to just one shot, which Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez saved to earn the shutout in goal.
