Women's Hockey Set to Begin Inaugural Season Versus Davenport
CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's hockey team begins its first season of competition when it takes the ice on Friday, October 15 versus Davenport University at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. Puck drop is scheduled for 6pm and fans can watch the game live here.
Unfortunately, the Lakers inaugural season was delayed from the 2020-21 campaign to the 2021-22 season due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, but Lakers Interim Head Coach Tony Brogan is excited to finally get the program off and running.
"It's going to be great to be part of Roosevelt's first women's hockey season," said Brogan. "We have a smaller roster this year, but all the girls have been working hard and can't wait to get the season started."
The women's hockey program carried over to Roosevelt from the integration with Robert Morris University Illinois in March 2020, and the roster features nine players who gained collegiate hockey experience while playing at RMU.
The Lakers are members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I, and they will compete conference wise in the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA). RU is in the CCWHA "West Pod" of teams, which also features Aquinas College (Mich.), Davenport University (Mich.), Grand Valley State University (Mich.), Indiana Tech, and Miami University (Ohio).
Roosevelt will play a 15-game schedule that can be found here and will conclude the regular season with a pair of road games versus Grand Valley State on February 5 and 6. The Lakers schedule features six home games that will be played at The Edge in Bensenville, Ill.
"I can't wait to see these girls develop over the season and help with the building process to have women's hockey at Roosevelt for years to come," added Brogan.
