Aianna Wilson Joins Roosevelt Women's Basketball Staff
CHICAGO – Roosevelt University women's basketball coach Deon Thomas announced the addition of Aianna Wilson to his coaching staff Tuesday for the 2024-25 season.
Wilson arrives at Roosevelt after spending last season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Lake Forest last season. Prior to her one season with the Foresters, Wilson was the graduate assistant for two season at North Park in Chicago. The Springfield, Ohio native began her coaching career in her home state as an assistant coach for one season at Terra State Community College.
"I am so excited and grateful to be joining Coach Deon and his staff at Roosevelt University," Wilson said. "Coach has done a tremendous job of changing this program and building a winning culture here. It's truly an honor to be given the opportunity to contribute to the success of these young women in this program on and off the court. I'm eager to get to work with the Laker program and excited for the journey ahead of us!"
Wilson played for four years at Heidelberg University in Ohio and was a force on the defensive end for her team. She was twice named the team's defensive player of the year and she was a two-time captain for the Student Princes. She also earned the prestigious Prugh Award from Heidelberg as the graduating student-athlete who best demonstrated leadership in all aspects of their life.
In her coaching career, Wilson has had a chance to work with several notable talents during her stops around Chicagoland. At North Park, she coached four all-conference players, including Jayla Johnson, who was a third-team All-American during Wilson's first season with the Vikings. Wilson also brings a wealth of experience coaching and playing at the NCAA level as the Lakers prepare for the program's first season as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II.
"We are thrilled to add Aianna to our Lakers women's basketball staff," Thomas said. "She is an outstanding basketball mind with great teaching skills and an experienced recruiter in the Chicagoland area. She is a tireless worker that fits perfectly with the culture we are building here at Roosevelt, and I am excited to have her pouring into the young women in our program."
