Levasseur's Career Game Not Enough On Senior Day
CHICAGO – A career day from Kencia Levasseur and history from Marie Outlay were not enough for Roosevelt on Saturday in an 86-65 Senior Day setback against Indiana Northwest in the regular season finale at the Goodman Center.
Prior to the team's game, the Lakers honored Kristen Keys and Malou Savanna as the team's only seniors. However, it was the underclassmen that generated the headlines for Roosevelt in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
Levasseur, a sophomore, scored a career-high 25 points on 11 of 14 shooting to buoy the Lakers (16-12, 14-6 CCAC) against the RedHawks. The Indiana native had six points and four rebounds in the first quarter and continued to produce in 25 minutes on the floor. She added seven points in the third quarter and eight more in the fourth in an attempt to will the Lakers back into the game.
Roosevelt fell behind by 11 midway through the first quarter and could never quite finish its rally back into contention. On three separate occasions, the Lakers worked their way back to within five points of the RedHawks only for the deficit to grow again.
It felt like the momentum was starting to turn midway through the third quarter when Levasseur made a layup and Outlay immediately stole the ball back and fed Levasseur for another layup. That play ended up being a historic moment as Outlay set the single-season steals record with her 82nd theft of the year. She would add one more to finish with four on the game to go along with four points and four rebounds.
Keys had a strong Senior Day performance with 15 points with 12 of those coming in the first half while trying to keep Roosevelt in the game. The Lakers finished the day even with the RedHawks in points in the paint and nearly identical numbers in rebounds, turnovers and points off turnovers.
The Lakers will be the No. 4 seed in the CCAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday night with the quarterfinals. Roosevelt will have a quick chance at revenge as well with Indiana Northwest earning the No. 5 seed and a return trip to the Goodman Center for tipoff at 6 p.m.
