Lakers Ride Third Quarter Wave Past Judson On Road

ELGIN, Ill. – Roosevelt used a dominant third quarter to cruise past Judson 81-56 on Wednesday evening in Elgin to secure the program's first home Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament game in more than a decade.

The Lakers (16-11, 14-5 CCAC) are guaranteed a top-four seed after the victory over the Eagles, the first time Roosevelt will host a CCAC Tournament game since the school won the conference in 2012-13. Roosevelt will be the No. 3 seed with a win Saturday against Indiana Northwest combined with a Saint Xavier loss to St. Francis. Otherwise, the Lakers will be the No. 4 seed.

Judson gave Roosevelt an early scare by leading by six after the first quarter, but the Lakers responded in the second to take a one-point lead into halftime. After the intermission, the Lakers dominated the game, winning the third quarter 31-7 and never looked back. Roosevelt held the Eagles to just 27 percent shooting in the second half while making 10 of 14 from the field in the third quarter. The Lakers added 34 points off turnovers, capitalizing on the 32 turnovers they forced from the Eagles.

Roosevelt and Judson traded buckets to start the third quarter, before the Lakers defense took over the contest. The Lakers held the Eagles to just two points and a single made basket over the final 8:55 of the quarter, highlighted by a 17-0 run. Jayla Turchin jumpstarted that stretch with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions as she finished with eight points in the stanza. She was only outdone by Kristen Keys' nine points in the quarter as Keys made all three of her shots and both free throws in the frame.

Turchin led the four Lakers in double figures with 16 points on 6 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 6 from long range. Keys finished with 11 points and Kencia Levasseur added 10 points and seven rebounds. Marie Outlay scored 10 points, but her all-around effort dominated the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists and three blocks to go along with a career-best eight steals. The eight thefts are one off the program's single-game record and brings the freshman two steals away from the single-season record.

The Lakers close out the regular season Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Goodman Center against Indiana Northwest. Prior to the game, the team will honor its two seniors: Kristen Keys and Malou Savanna.
