Lakers Fall To 17th-Ranked Titans

CHICAGO – Roosevelt's energetic first half came up short as No. 17 Indiana South Bend defeated the Lakers 69-53 on Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Center.

The Lakers gave the regular-season champions of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference all they could handle in the first half. The opening six minutes was a rock fight with the Titans holding a slim 4-3 lead before Ella Pritchard's layup with 4:03 left in the quarter. Grace Beyer knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:10 left to tie the game at 10, kickstarting the 10-2 run that gave Roosevelt (15-11, 13-5 CCAC) the lead after 10 minutes.

Roosevelt maintained the lead throughout the second quarter, answering every rally by the Titans with a big shot. Most of the time, it was Jayla Turchin leading the charge for the Lakers as she scored eight of her 15 points in the second quarter. She twice knocked down a 3 when Indiana South Bend cut the lead to a single possession and made a layup when the Titans creeped to within one. Turchin also added 12 rebounds in the setback to notch her second double-double of the week.

Indiana South Bend surged ahead for good in the third quarter despite shooting just 3 of 13 from 3-point range in the game. The Lakers also held their own on the glass, outrebounding the Titans 32-29 and scoring eight second-chance points on eight offensive rebounds.

Malou Savanna led the Lakers with 16 points while Jalyssa Carrasco added seven assists.

Roosevelt returns to the floor Wednesday evening in Elgin when it faces Judson at 5:30 p.m.
