Turchin's Dominant Effort Lifts Lakers Over Bees

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Jayla Turchin exploded for 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Roosevelt to a comfortable 75-58 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference win over St. Ambrose on Wednesday night in Davenport, Iowa.

The Lakers (15-10, 13-4 CCAC) closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take control of the game and never looked back. They led by 15 at the break courtesy of a Turchin buzzer beater, rounding out a 10-point quarter for the junior. Turchin also grabbed four rebounds in her eight minutes of action in the second quarter.

In the second half, Grace Beyer began to heat up from behind the arc, scoring 13 of her 16 points over the final 20 minutes. The junior was 3 of 6 from long range in the second half as she helped the Lakers continue to push past the Fighting Bees, increasing the lead to its largest at 17.

Jalyssa Carrasco continued her sensational season in the details, leading Roosevelt with six assists and four steals in the game. She also added five rebounds to go along with eight points, one of three Lakers who finished two points shy of double figures. Kencia Levasseur and Malou Savanna were the other two that finished with eight points in the game.

The Lakers began the game with some history when Kristen Keys made two 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds to surpass 1,000 points in her career. Those would be the only points Keys scored in the game as she was substituted out moments later and finished with six points in just four minutes of action.

Roosevelt returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Indiana South Bend at the Goodman Center with the hopes of delaying the Titans clinching the CCAC crown.
