Lakers Surge Past Tigers To Keep Win Streak Alive

CHICAGO – Roosevelt used a fourth-quarter surge to secure its seventh consecutive win with a come-from-behind 77-74 win over Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Goodman Center.

The Lakers (12-9, 10-3 CCAC) were trailing by eight points after three quarters, but it took them just 3:32 to take the lead in the final frame. Malou Savanna drained a 3-pointer on Roosevelt's first possession of the quarter then a steal led to an easy layup for Jayla Turchin. The Tigers answered with a jumper before Kristen Keys knocked down a 3-pointer and Marie Outlay capped the run with a triple of her own.

Roosevelt connected on 5 of 7 from behind the arc in the fourth quarter as part of a 28-17 drubbing in the frame. The Lakers even extended their lead to as much as seven in the final stanza before holding on for the victory with a strong defensive showing. The Lakers held the Tigers to just 28.6 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, including 2 of 11 from 3-point range, to secure the victory.

Outlay was a steady hand for the Lakers throughout the game, finding ways to make plays – big and small – to keep the Lakers in the game. The freshman finished with a team-high 18 points but also added six steals, a block, two assists and three rebounds. The Wisconsin native also made her offense count, shooting 6 of 8 from the field and 3 for 4 from deep.

Savanna was equally important for the Lakers and finished with 13 points, all of which seemed to come in big moments. The last of her team-best five assists found an open Turchin for 3 to give the Lakers a four-point lead. She also scored eight points in the final frame, none more important than the back-breaking 3-pointer with 1:10 left that put Roosevelt up by seven points.

Keys and Turchin both also finished in double figures with Keys scoring 10 and Turchin adding 11 points. Turchin also led the team with nine rebounds to help the Lakers eke out a 41-37 edge on the glass. Ella Pritchard was a massive aid on the defensive end of the floor with five steals and three blocks to go along with her four rebounds.

The Lakers will look to keep the good times rolling Saturday afternoon in Palos Heights with a 1 p.m. matchup against Trinity Christian on the road.
