
Lakers Push 22nd-Ranked Vikings To The Limit
DES MOINES, Iowa – Roosevelt pushed No. 22 Grand View to the brink before falling 86-75 to the Vikings on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa in a non-conference matchup.
The Lakers (4-8) set the tone early in the game by limiting the Vikings to just two points in the first 4:53 of play. Even after Grand View led by five points after the first quarter, Roosevelt scored the first 14 points of the second stanza and held the Vikings scoreless for 4:54. It wasn't until early in the fourth quarter that the Vikings led by more than five points and it was still a five-point game with just over five minutes left.
Kristen Keys jumpstarted the Lakers in the first quarter with 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting, including draining all three of her 3-point attempts. Kencia Levasseur picked up the slack in the second quarter with 12 points on 6 of 7 from the field, helping the Lakers trail by a single point at halftime. Levasseur added eight more points in the third quarter and finished with a career-best 23 points. Keys added seven more points in the fourth quarter and finished with 21 points while making 5 of 7 from long range.
Roosevelt did its part in the little areas of the game against a top-25 foe, winning the rebounding battle 33-22 and scoring 24 points off turnovers. Jayla Turchin was a big part of the effort on the glass with a team-high seven rebounds while Levasseur grabbed six boards, and Jalyssa Carrasco and Marie Outlay each had five. Outlay also finished with 13 points and three steals to lead help spur the effort on both ends of the floor.
The Lakers will close out their non-conference slate Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Lake Superior State at the Goodman Center.
