Lakers Earn Record-Book Win Over Crimson Wave

CHICAGO – For the second consecutive season, Roosevelt turned Calumet St. Joseph into the victim of the biggest win in program history with a 91-29 drubbing of the Crimson Wave on Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Center in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

It was a historic win in a different way as well for the Lakers, who set the program mark for fewest points allowed in a game. All nine Lakers who made an appearance in the game scored at least five points and Roosevelt (2-7, 1-2 CCAC) dominated every facet of the game. The Lakers had more offensive rebounds (25) than Calumet St. Joseph had total rebounds (24) and they scored more points off Crimson Wave turnovers (31) than the Crimson Wave had in the 40 minutes.

Roosevelt's dominance began in the first quarter when the Lakers shot just 32 percent from the field but still led by 17 points after 10 minutes. The Lakers kept the Crimson Wave off the scoreboard for more than six minutes to start the game and feasted with 12 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds in the first quarter alone.

Grace Beyer brought an early spark off the bench for Roosevelt with two big 3-pointers among her eight points in the first quarter to help the Lakers push out the lead. Ella Pritchard and Jayla Turchin also provided a commanding presence on the interior to help the Lakers control the glass all afternoon. Roosevelt finished with a 52-24 edge on rebounds, converting those 25 offensive rebounds into 23 points.

Turchin went into halftime just a rebound shy of a double-double, and fell just short while resting for much of the second half with a big lead. The senior finished with 12 points and nine boards in the game, tying for the team lead with Kencia Levasseur, who also grabbed nine rebounds in addition to scoring seven points.

Beyer led all scorers with 17 points, one of four Lakers who finished in double figures. Pritchard scored 10 points in the fourth quarter alone to end up with 14 points while Marie Outlay set her career high with 13 points. Jalyssa Carrasco only added seven points, but did also dish out seven assists as Roosevelt assisted on 22 of its 34 made baskets.

The Lakers will prepare for a battle next Saturday afternoon at Olivet Nazarene with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Bourbonnais.
