Balanced Effort Leads Lakers To First Win Of New Season

MARION, Ind. – Roosevelt had six players finish in double figures to lead the Lakers to their first win of the season, an 88-62 triumph over Rochester in a neutral-site contest Saturday in Marion, Ind.

Although it took the Lakers (1-3) two and a half minutes to score in the game, once the ball went into the basket, they were off to the races. Brilan McCory scored seven points in the first quarter and Roosevelt forced 10 turnovers to take a 22-12 lead after 10 minutes. The Lakers extended that advantage to 15 points at halftime courtesy of six more points from McCory, who led the way with 17 points in the contest.

The Lakers pushed the pace in the third quarter with a 16-3 run over the first six minutes of the second half with seven different players scoring in the third quarter. Roosevelt led by 28 points after 30 minutes then shot 57 percent from the field in the fourth quarter to seal their first victory of the new season.

Kencia Levasseur scored 14 points off the bench for Roosevelt while Kristen Keys and Marie Outlay both added 12 for the Lakers. Malou Savanna chipped in 11 points and Ella Pritchard fell just a rebound shy of her first career double-double with 10 points and a team-high nine boards. Roosevelt claimed a 37-30 edge on the glass over the Warriors and also finished with 15 steals, led by five from Outlay and four from McCory.

Roosevelt returns home to the Goodman Center for its next game Wednesday at 5 p.m. when they get a look at future conference foe Northern Michigan.
