Program-Record Three Lakers Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes

CHICAGO – Roosevelt women's basketball set a program record with three players being named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Wednesday.

Junior guards Beatrice Bruno and Gabby Beggs as well as graduate student guard Amelia McNutt all earned the Scholar-Athlete moniker for the first time in their careers. Bruno appeared in 23 games this season for the Lakers with seven starts while playing 15 minutes per game. Beggs averaged 8.3 points per game in 23 appearances for Roosevelt this season while also leading the team with 3.3 assists per game. McNutt averaged 14 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while starting all 27 games this season for the Lakers.

The Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who have a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the institution. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
