Lakers Close Out Women's Basketball Season With 66-64 Loss to Governors State Despite Senior Nicole Poole's 19 Points & Nine Rebounds

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team closed out the 2021-22 season with a 66-64 CCAC Conference loss to Governors State University despite four players scoring in double figures on Saturday, February 19 at The Arc in University Park, Ill. The Lakers finished the season with an overall record of 8-18 and a CCAC record of 7-15.

The first quarter was slow going offensively for both teams in the early part of the game, but Nicole Poole knocked down a three-pointer with 4:35 on the clock to give the Lakers a 9-3 lead.  Roosevelt increased that lead to 17-7 with 34 seconds to go behind five points from Shawna Conger and a three-pointer by Gabrielle Beggs, and the visitors held a 19-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

Roosevelt continued to control the game in the beginning of the second quarter, pushing its lead to 29-14 just over three and a half minutes in.  The Lakers held a double-digit lead for the majority of the stanza until the Jaguars made a late run to cut the deficit to 34-26 at the half.

The Lakers once again went ahead by double-digits behind five more points from Poole to lead 42-28 just under three minutes into the third quarter.  However, Governors State then went on a 12-2 run to pull to within 44-40 with 3:31 remaining, but Roosevelt held on to lead 53-47 heading into the final quarter.

Moe Milton hit a jumper to give the Lakers a 55-47 lead to start the final 10 minutes, but the Jaguars went on a 7-0 in the next minute and a half to pull to within 55-54 with 8:14 to play.  Roosevelt continued to hold a slight lead for the next four minutes and led 64-58 after a Poole three-pointer with 3:45 left to go.  However, the Lakers would not score another point the rest of the way while the Jaguars came back to tie the game at 64-64 with just over two minutes to play and then scored the game winning basket with 34 seconds to play.
