Women's Basketball Suffers Heartbreaking CCAC Conference Loss at the Buzzer to Lincoln

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking CCAC Conference loss at the buzzer, falling to Lincoln College by the score of 75-74 on Wednesday, February 9 at the Goodman Center.  The loss dropped the Lakers overall record to 7-16 and their conference mark to 6-13 on the year.

The Lakers grabbed the lead from the get go and opened up an 8-1 advantage behind five points by Gabrielle Beggs and a three-pointer from Amelia McNutt.  Roosevelt pushed its lead to 12-3 behind consecutive baskets by Moe Miton, but the Lynx closed out the quarter on an 11-2 run to tie things up at 14-14 before Milton hit a jumper for a 16-14 RU lead at the end of the opening stanza.

After Lincoln tied the game up at 16-16 to begin the second quarter, the Lakers erupted and built a lead as large as 20 points, including a 48-28 advantage at the half.  The Roosevelt offensive outburst was sparked by 12 points from Beggs and 11 points from Shawna Conger.

However, the third quarter belonged to the Lynx as their offense exploded to cut the RU lead down to two points at 52-50 with 3:24 to go.  The Lakers pushed their lead back up to eight points, but Lincoln brought that margin down to 59-55 heading into the final quarter.

The Lakers extended their lead to nine points in the first minute after another Conger three-pointer and RU's lead didn't go below six points until in the final few minutes.  As Lincoln chipped away at the lead, the Lakers offense struggled down the stretch and didn't score a point in the final 3:50 of the game.  Despite not adding to their scoring total, the Lakers still held a 74-73 lead with three seconds to play, but the Lynx had possession of the ball at midcourt for an inbounds pass.  The RU defense forced an errant shot, but a Lynx player caught it and put up a shot under the rim that fell as the buzzer sounded for the win.
