
Women's Basketball Falls to Holy Cross 81-62 in CCAC Conference Action
CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team had its two-game winning streaked snapped with an 81-62 loss to Holy Cross College (Ind.) in a CCAC Conference contest on Wednesday, January 26 at the Goodman Center. The Lakers are now 7-11 overall and 6-8 in conference play this season.
The Lakers scored first to begin the game on a Nicole Poole layup, but the Saints came back to score the next eight points and pushed their lead to 16-6 with 3:54 to go in the opening quarter. Roosevelt cut the deficit to 16-10 on a Mallory Hawkins free throw and a Shawna Conger three-pointer and trailed 18-12 with just seconds left. However, Holy Cross knocked down a three at the buzzer to lead 21-12 heading into the second quarter.
Roosevelt scored first in the second quarter on an Amelia McNutt jumper, but Holy Cross scored seven consecutive points and then built a 33-17 lead with 6:22 left in the half. The Lakers slowly got back to within 10 points, trailing 37-27 with 1:46 remaining after a Conger three-pointer, and ended the half down 41-30.
In the third quarter, the Saints maintained a double-digit throughout until the final minute of the period when the Lakers cut the margin to 56-47 on a Hawkins layup with 45 seconds left to play. Holy Cross added two buckets before the end of the stanza to lead 60-47 heading into the final 10 minutes of play and added to their lead in the final quarter for the 81-62 win.
