Women's Basketball Snaps Three-Game Losing Streak With 84-73 CCAC Conference Win Over Calumet St. Joseph

WHITING, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 84-73 CCAC Conference victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday, January 22 at the Rittenmeyer Center.  The win raised the Lakers conference record to 5-7 and their overall record to 6-10 this season.

The teams traded the lead early on in the first quarter before the Crimson Wave held a 14-11 advantage.  Amelia McNutt hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 14-13 with 3:26 to go, but Calumet St. Joseph maintained the lead the remainder of the quarter and led 22-18 after the first 10 minutes of play.

The home team held the lead for the beginning of the second quarter, but McNutt then scored eight straight points to put the Lakers ahead 33-28 with 4:36 left to go.  Ariyah Honeysucker hit a jump shot to extend the lead to 35-28 and Roosevelt held a 42-36 lead at the half.

The Lakers pushed their lead to 49-38 on a Gabrielle Beggs' three-point shot early in the third quarter, but the Crimson Wave climbed back to within 52-47 with 5:38 left in the stanza.  Shawna Conger knocked down a three-pointer with 2:37 remaining to push the RU lead to 64-57, but Calumet St. Joseph chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to 66-62 heading into the final quarter.

The Crimson Wave then tied the game at 66-66 to begin the fourth quarter, but Beggs came through for the Lakers with the next seven points and Conger added two points to give the visitors a 75-66 margin with 4:51 to go.  Calumet St. Joseph cut the deficit to 77-71 with 3:27 left on the clock, but Roosevelt maintained control of the game to hold on for the 84-73 victory.
