Women's Basketball Dominates Calumet St. Joseph for 74-53 CCAC Conference Victory

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team opened the CCAC Conference season with a convincing 74-53 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Wednesday, November 3 at the Goodman Center.  The win was the first of Lakers Head Coach Charnelle Reed's career and raised her team's overall record to 1-2 and their CCAC record to 1-0 on the year. 

The Lakers took control of the game early on in the opening quarter, building a 15-5 lead behind eight points from Nicole Poole.  Roosevelt kept up the momentum the rest of the quarter and held a 25-15 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter, but the Lakers pushed their lead to as large as 15 points and closed out the first half with a 34-21 lead.

Gabrielle Beggs knocked down a three-pointer to begin the third quarter, and another Poole three-pointer and two consecutive CeCe Pope baskets gave RU a 22-point lead at 48-26 before the Lakers closed out the quarter ahead 56-33.

The fourth quarter was more of the same Roosevelt domination, with the Lakers up by as many as 27 points and winning the league contest 74-53.
