Roosevelt University Director of Athletics John Jaramillo announced Michele Alexander as the new head coach of the Lakers softball program for the spring 2022 season.

“I am elated to welcome Michele Alexander to Roosevelt University as our head softball coach,” stated Jaramillo.  “It was clear that Michele's experience as a player and coach, her vision for the program, her tremendous character and values, and her consistent emphasis on the holistic experience of the students made her the perfect fit to lead our softball program.”

“I am extremely excited to join Roosevelt University and share its mission to create a positive and inclusive student experience,” said Alexander. “I want to thank John Jaramillo for giving me this opportunity and believing in my vision for the Laker softball program. I hope to create a positive environment that helps foster trust, leadership, and personal growth throughout their time as a student-athlete at Roosevelt University.”

Alexander comes to Roosevelt from Alverno College (Wis.), where she served as the head coach since last September.  Prior to her stint at Alverno, she was as an assistant varsity softball coach at Lockport Township High School during the spring 2021 season and was both a graduate assistant and assistant softball coach at Concordia University Chicago, her alma mater, from 2017-2020.  In addition, Alexander is part of the Bo Jackson Elite Sports and Chicago Cheetahs Fastpitch organizations, where she is head coach of the U-18 age group and serves as a catching instructor and clinic supervisor.

As a student-athlete, Alexander was a four-year starter at Concordia-Chicago and earned All-NACC First Team honors for her performance in the 2015 season.  During that year, she posted a .342 batting average and a .447 slugging percentage to go with 39 hits, three home runs, and 16 runs batted in. Alexander ended her collegiate career with a .308 average, 21 doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 83 RBI in 145 games played.  She graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and Fitness Management in 2017 and earned her Masters of Arts in Psychology in 2020.

“Michele’s detail-oriented and caring nature, ability to adapt and focus on moving forward, and extensive acumen on creating a competitive environment that also fosters the physical and mental well-being of the students she coaches are just a few of the many traits that make Michele stand out and ready to take Roosevelt Softball to another level,” added Jaramillo.  “I welcome Michele back home to the Chicagoland area, and I look forward to seeing her lead the Roosevelt Lakers and support her efforts in her new role.”
