Maddie Massaro Promoted To Assistant Softball Coach

CHICAGO – Maddie Massaro has been promoted to an assistant coach for the Roosevelt softball program after serving this past season as the team's graduate assistant, Lakers head coach Michele Alexander announced Monday.

Massaro was a key part of last season's coaching staff in her first year with the Lakers, helping lead Roosevelt to a third-place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. She helped mentor Roosevelt's five all-conference players last season, including first-team pitcher Samantha Norman. Massaro was the main pitch caller for Norman as the senior struck out 128 batters and walked just 28 with a 2.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in more than 130 innings in the circle.

"I couldn't be more excited for Maddie to step into this role," Alexander said. "Her passion for the game is tangible in everything she does, and her ability to connect with our players provides such a valuable resource for them as both athletes and people. Maddie's competitive nature, knowledge of the game, attention to detail, and commitment to growth are attributes that will serve her and the program well.  I am so excited to see the positive impact she will continue to have on our program and all she will accomplish in the future!"

Massaro is currently finishing her master's degree in business administration in addition to serving in this new role for the Lakers. She came to Roosevelt last season after completing her softball career at St. Francis (Ill.) where she batted .317 in her three years with the Fighting Saints. As a senior, Massaro was a second-team all-conference player and a member of the CCAC's Gold Glove team as a catcher.

The Romeoville native began her collegiate career at Robert Morris University Illinois, where she batted .242 with four RBIs as a freshman in 2019.
