Roosevelt Earns Split With Lake Forest

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Roosevelt picked up its first win of the young season Saturday night in a doubleheader split against Lake Forest at the Dome at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont.

The Lakers (1-5) opened the evening with a seven-run fourth inning that provided all the offense they would need in a 7-1 victory. Lake Forest would equalize the series with a 9-1 six-inning victory in the back half of the doubleheader.

Patience at the plate was critical for the Lakers in their explosive fourth inning against the Foresters. Roosevelt worked four walks, including one with the bases loaded, in the frame to complement its three hits in the inning.

Samantha Norman started the inning with a walk then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Emily Zuniga. Isabella Walton opened the scoring with a double into right field that plated Norman before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Bailee Reynolds and Nicole Reynolds both walked to bring up pinch hitter Madison Sullivan for an RBI single into center field.

Ella Dvoracek continued the inning with another walk then Scout Kram reached on an RBI fielder's choice and Brynn Dvoracek brought home her sister with a single. Norman returned to the plate for the second time in the inning and forced an error from the second baseman that allowed the final two runs of the game to score. The senior also earned the start in the circle and struck out four in five innings, scattering four hits and allowing an unearned run.

The second game was not as kind to the Lakers despite two hits from Caitlin Williams in the heart of the lineup.  Walton had the only RBI of the game for the Lakers with an RBI groundout in the fourth inning.

Roosevelt will now prepare for its annual spring break trip with the Lakers scheduled to play 10 games next week in Florida, starting with a doubleheader Sunday against Lawrence Tech.
