Four Lakers Honored With Postseason CCAC Award Recognition
CHICAGO – Roosevelt softball had four players honored by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference after the league's postseason awards were announced Tuesday.
The Lakers placed shortstop Anaisa Lozada on the All-CCAC First Team while Scout Kram and Samantha Norman were named to the All-CCAC Second Team. In addition, Emily Zuniga was named the conference's Gold Glove winner for second base, the conference's first year of honoring the best defenders in the league.
This is the second consecutive year Lozada has been named a first-team selection after leading the team with a .385 batting average. She was especially dangerous in conference play with a .421 average and .433 on-base percentage in 20 games against CCAC foes. The senior from Streamwood was especially clutch late in the season for the Lakers, delivering big hits in big moments to Roosevelt to wins.
Norman earns her first all-conference honor after having a breakout year in the circle for the Lakers. The junior from Shorewood was 7-3 with a 1.38 ERA in 56 innings over 12 appearances in conference play this season. She also averaged 7.4 strikeouts per seven innings against CCAC competition by fanning 59 hitters and walking just 10. Overall, Norman eclipsed 100 strikeouts to become just the second pitcher to accomplish the feat and posted a 1.78 ERA with 11 victories to her credit.
Kram also is a first-team All-CCAC honoree in her first year with the Lakers after being a nuisance on the base paths. She finished second on the team with a .409 on-base percentage and led Roosevelt with 15 stolen bases while batting .333 this season. In CCAC games, the junior from Lindenhurst batted .397 with an on-base percentage of .463, capped off by her first career home run in the CCAC Tournament on Saturday.
Zuniga was nearly perfect in the field this season, committing just one error in 20 games played against CCAC competition for a .986 fielding percentage. The sophomore from Pasadena, California had a .977 fielding percentage across the entire season and was credited with 90 putouts and 35 assists in the field.
"I am so incredibly proud of each of our student athletes that have received these awards," Roosevelt head coach Michele Alexander said. "In a conference with such an extremely talented pool of athletes, you truly have to be a consistent performer to receive this type of recognition. The future is so bright for these young women and I am honored to have been able to witness their success thus far!"
