Softball Falls at Olivet Nazarene to End CCAC Slate
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Roosevelt Lakers softball team made the trek to Bourbonnais, Illinois on Thursday, April 28 to complete a game from earlier this season that was suspended due to darkness in the sixth inning. Having completed their CCAC schedules, the teams also agreed to play a non-conference game immediately following completion of the suspended game. The Lakers fell in both games, dropping their conference record to 13-9 and their overall record to 20-17 on the year.
Game one resumed in the sixth inning with the Lakers behind 10-5. Prior to the stoppage of the game on April 5, Jessica Schneider delivered a two-run home run in the third inning to give RU a 2-1 lead. Schneider later extended the margin to 3-1 in fifth with a single, but it was not enough for the Lakers as a nine run sixth inning from Tigers would be too much to overcome. Roosevelt was not able to muster any offense when the game resumed and the final score settled at 10-5 in favor of ONU.
Game two got off to a favorable start for the Lakers as they were able to load the bases with no outs in the inning. With the bags full, RU delivered with a single from Athena Pomele-Pon that scored Kassie Kawka. Next, Ashlyn Kitter reached base on an errant throw, allowing Anaisa Lozada to score. Brielle Carre then singled up the middle to score Schneider. With the bases still loaded and no outs, Kirstin Fudge grounded out to the pitcher, but Pomele-Pon was able to score. Sabrina Trecanni added to the Lakers total with another single that scored Kitter. After one, Roosevelt had a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Unfortunately, for the Lakers, they would not find that offensive magic again this game. Meanwhile the Tigers were able to plate four runs in the third and another in the sixth inning to tie the game. With the game still tied in the bottom of the seventh, ONU scored the go-ahead and game-winning run to sweep the day with a 6-5 win.
