Roosevelt Softball Sweeps CCAC Conference Doubleheader From Judson

ELGIN, Ill. – The Roosevelt University softball team swept a CCAC Conference doubleheader from Judson University, winning game one by the score of 4-2 and taking game two in five innings by the score of 16-2 at Continental Park.  With the two game sweep, the Lakers are now 5-6 in the conference and 12-13 overall this season.

In the first game of the day, the Lakers scored all the runs they would need in the second inning, taking a 3-0 lead, while starting pitcher Kate Sisson held the Judson bats at bay.  Destini Nolan got things started with a base hit to right, advancing to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Kirstin Fudge single.  Sabrina Treccani drove in Nolan with a ground out to first, and Ashlyn Kitter reached on a bunt single and advanced to second base on the play.  Both Fudge and Kitter scored on an error that allowed Kassie Kawka to reach second base.

Judson got on the board with a solo run in the fifth inning on four hits to cut the margin to 3-1.  However, the Lakers scored a run of their own in the sixth with Emily Zuniga singling, advancing to third on a throwing error, and scoring on a Kitter ground out.  The Eagles scraped one more run across in the bottom half of the inning with the help of an RU error, but that would be the last of the scoring in the game.

Roosevelt had an offensive explosion in the game two, scoring the game's first 16 runs.  In the first inning, Jessica Schneider walked and Anaisa Lozada followed with a homerun to left center for a 2-0 lead.  Kitter led off the second inning with a base hit to right field and scored a batter later on a Kelly Farmer double to right center.  Zuniga drove in Farmer with a base hit to left field and Zuniga later scored on a dropped fly during Schneider's at bat.

In the third inning, Athena Pomele-Pen led off with a walk and Farmer doubled to left with both scoring on a Kawka base hit to center field.  A nine-run fourth inning by the Lakers put the game away with the visitors racking up seven hits in the stanza.

Judson ruined Dayton Elliott's shutout bid with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth for the 16-2 final score.
