Lozada Homers, But Lakers Fall in CCAC Doubleheader With Saint Xavier

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt University softball team suffered a CCAC Conference doubleheader sweep at the hands of Saint Xavier University on Sunday, April 10, losing the first game by the score of 12-1 and game two 17-3.  The losses dropped the Lakers conference record to 2-5 and their overall record to 9-12 on the year.

The Cougars got off to a quick start in game one, scoring the first six runs of the game. Emily Zuniga led off the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. With Zuniga on second, Jessica Schneider ripped a double to left center, scoring Zuniga for the Lakers only run of the game. Roosevelt surrendered six additional runs in the fourth and fifth, winning by a 12-1 margin.

Game two saw the Cougar bats stay hot, getting out to a 13-0 lead in the first three innings. Looking to rally, the Lakers saw some offensive highlights in the third and fourth innings. With two outs in the third, Ashlyn Kitter found the right center gap for a triple. Schneider followed with another double to left center, once again driving in the first Lkaers run of the game. With the score 13-1, Athena Pomele-Pen led of the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field. In the very next at-bat, Anaisa Lozada hit a deep drive to left that cleared the fence to cut the deficit to 13-3. Unfortunately, the Lakers bats were silent to close the game and the Cougars took the win 17-3.
