Lakers Offense Explodes for Blow Out Wins Over Jamestown & Baldwin Wallace on Arizona Softball Trip

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Roosevelt University softball team erupted offensively with two five-inning victories on Thursday, March 10, defeating the University of Jamestown (N.D.) by the score of 15-2 and Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio) by the score of 17-5 in Tucson, Ariz.  The wins evened the Lakers record at 5-5 on the year.

JAMESTOWN GAME RECAP

The Jimmies opened the game with a two-run first inning, but that would be the only offense Jamestown would manage against Roosevelt starting pitcher Dayton Elliott for the remainder of the game.  Meanwhile, the Lakers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first and eight runs in the second to blow open the game.

In the bottom of the first, Jessica Schneider and Kirstin Fudge hit back-to-back doubles to score Schneider, and Fudge scored on a passed ball after reaching third on Jimmies error, which allowed Athena Pomele-Pen to reach base.  Kelly Farmer followed with a ground-rule double to score Pomele-Pen, and Anaisa Lozada also hit a ground-rule double to bring in Farmer.  Brielle Carre reached on an error and stole second base to give the Lakers runners at second and third with Lozada scoring on a sacrifice fly from Kassie Kawka.  Carre stole her second base of the inning and Ashlyn Kitter walked and then stole second base to put runners at second and third again for RU, allowing both runners to score on an Emily Zuniga ground out to cap off the inning.

The Lakers began the second inning with Pomele-Pen reaching on a dropped third strike and Farmer following with a walk.  Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball, and Lozada and Carre hit back-to-back singles to score Pomele-Pen and Farmer.  Kawka then walked to load the bases and Kitter also walked to bring in Lozada.  A wild pitch scored Carre and moved the other runners into scoring position, allowing Kitter to score on a Fudge base hit.  In their second at-bats of the inning, Pomele-Pen, Farmer, and Lozada all singled, scoring Fudge and Pomele-Pen for the 15-2 lead.
