Lakers Squads Finish Eighth At CCAC Championships
VALPARAISO, Ind. – A strong team effort helped the Roosevelt men's and women's cross country teams both finish eighth at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Sunset Hills Farms in Valparaiso, Ind.
Brandon Saavedra again led the Lakers effort on the men's side by finishing 47th in a time of 28 minutes and 14 seconds. Dominic Gamez finished in 29:39 to finish 62nd and Raul Ortiz set a personal best in the eight-kilometer race with a time of 30:54. Cristian Martinez came in 75th place in 31:09, followed by Aaron Rodriguez's run of 33:11 to round out the team score. Willie Rouse was just 12 seconds behind Rodriguez to finish in 91st position overall.
For the first time this season, the Lakers had five runners in the same meet and they were good enough to beat out three other teams in the field. Monse Morales finished in 27:23 to lead Roosevelt by placing 48th overall and Angie Delgado was 66th in 28:44. The surprise might have been Destiny Ashcraft running just four seconds behind Delgado a little more than 12 hours after finishing her season with the women's soccer season. Shelsee Isassi ran 29:19 to place 70th and Lisset Munoz finished in 30:49 to complete Roosevelt's effort at the event.
