Lakers Destroy Season Bests At Bethel Pilot Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Roosevelt's cross country squad ran the best times of its season at the Bethel Pilot Invitational on Saturday in South Bend, Ind.

Brandon Saavedra cut another minute off his previous best time at eight kilometers this season to lead the Lakers to a 15th place finish. The senior completed the race in 28:30, about a minute ahead of Dominic Gamez, who ran 29:33 to shave a minute off his previous season best. Raul Ortiz finished in 31:47 while Cristian Martinez ran 32:15, both times were nearly two minutes faster than earlier in the year. Aaron Rodriguez ran 33:24 and Willie Rouse came in at 34:44 to both set season bests as well.

The Lakers only sent three female runners into the race, so they did not register a team score, but all three runners set season bests in the race. Monse Morales paced Roosevelt in 22:41, easily surpassing her times from earlier this season by nearly 90 seconds. Angie Delgado was close on Morales' heels in 22:47, which was more than 20 seconds better than her previous best time this season. Lisset Munoz rounded out the trio by finishing in 25:52, shedding nearly a minute off her other race this season.

Roosevelt travels to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Oct. 21 for its next event at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
