Lakers Ramp Up Season At ONU Midwest Classic

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Roosevelt sent out a full team on the men's side for the first time this season at the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene on Friday in Bourbonnais.

The Lakers had six runners race for the men's cross country team while Monse Morales represented the women in the event. Roosevelt placed eighth out of the eight full teams that competed on the men's side while Morales finished 38th out of 57 runners after completing the 5-kilometer course in 24 minutes and 8 seconds.

Senior Brandon Saavedra paced the men with a 45th place finish in the 8-kilometer race with a time of 30:20 and fellow senior Dominic Gamez was not too far behind Saavedra with a time of 30:42 to finish 52nd. Raul Ortiz placed 71st in a time of 33:31, Aaron Rodriguez finished in 34:08 for 73rd position, and rounding up the Roosevelt effort was Cristian Martinez in 35:07 and Willie Rouse in 36 minutes even for 77th and 78th place, respectively.

Roosevelt will race again on Sept. 30 at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College in West Allis, Wis.
